Maths Craft New Zealand were invited to the IDEAS Festival in Nelson on 11-12 April to run workshops on some of the links between mathematics and craft.
In our hands-on workshop we explored the wonders of the Möbius strip and built an origami cube. While we built, twisted, folded, and experimented, we discussed the mathematics behind each of the objects we created. Maths Craft ran three workshops each day; they were very successful and made people think about mathematics in a whole new way. Everyone had a great time and took home their crafty mathematical creations.
The IDEAS Festival is a fun two days of learning and discovery for school children aged 8-13. The concept behind the IDEAS Festival is simple - people who do amazing things can inspire others to do amazing things too. Students select sessions in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) topics and explore them in interactive, dynamic workshops. The IDEAS Festival offers experiences that inspire, excite, and spark ideas for brighter futures.
The IDEAS Festival is a not-for-profit event run by an educational charity.
